glance

young suit
tattered shoes
nicotine stained fingertips
idealistic adulthood
weaves strands of smoke
through the grid of lights and concrete
a mile a minute
ideas recap the day's lesson
the speech portrays years
content trims fat
appearance reveals the contradiction
nothing ends.

stop and pop

wires force movement to fingers
fantasies of distant locales
fill voids with distorted images
inaccuracy of spiraled barrels
penetrate concrete wood glass
relative of water
finds the path of least resistance
the witching hour spreads to both sides
weeping angels stand watch
then feast on the souls of the ignorant
silently decreasing the population
it comes from all sides
there is no need to constantly look around

jump out boys

lyrics of fried cocaine
surf on synthesized strings
forced rehabilitation
i inject code and rhyme
mainline straight into the temporal
i junk
balance
comb webs for a taste
higher i get
numbers of the board
speak melodic hieroglyphics
intrinsic motivation
lead words down the rabbit hole
lost to the way that was traveled

union

every reason is different
the end result is the same
some stay for hours
some for seconds
they all sit
slow down to watch life pass
reflect or escape their deeds.

meditation by perfection
small wheels travel on six sided brick
a traveling circus suspends time
allows humanity a brief moment to breathe
the spectrum of emotions.

we look to each other
look at our phones
stare into space
searching
for god knows what.

this continues
day in and day out
until the weather clears the square.

her

foundation standards guidelines patterns set
built broken reconstructed
unconditional
an understanding of the world
sets the tempo.
a man
born into the world
minus a man.
she carries the load
wordless conversations
leaves markers stranger than gattaca.
nature vs nurture fight an endless war
a silent warrior
shows the child soldier
sins of the world
joys of the world
life as it is.
mercury
surfs the lines of a palm
an experiment
unleashes an experiment
to interact with experiments.

i watch the breeze
above
pillows drift into line of sight.
the earth spins
air moves
transforms moister into memories.
a face appears
clouds wrap wisps around my heart
warmth follows
i run the future through her eyes
she stares
mimics my behavior
tells me the lighter side of life
with a smile
my mood lightens
floats to a space
that doesn't exist
in the tangible world
i'm caught in the iris.
light reflects the brilliance of her soul
colors blend
creating a world fit for a kaleidoscope.
she pushes me away
flirts with emotions
ties the strings of my heart
around her finger
fibers break and knot
to form an elaborate labyrinth.
i'm lost
feeling my way through a stone wall maze.
letters of encouragement arrive by paper airplane
they circle
taunt me
reveal words that need to be read twice.
hope is lost
the moon no longer steals light from the sun
stars are visible
but their rays do not reach solid ground
they flicker
morse coding a message i dare not decipher.
i remember the clouds
slowly morphing
exposing moments of bliss.
my eyes adjust to the darkness
the still earth resembles a black hole
pulling my consciousness to a place
carefully avoided.
sounds of the heart cries loud
so i scream
and let the treble and the bass
wreak havoc on all who listen.

she came to me
in a dream
in a field
sunny day cool air
a slight hill
picnic without food.
brown supports green
we cycle
i watch
she explores
weaves through grass as tall as she
she walks
strong on new legs.
i hold her
soft body rests in soft arms
little legs dangle
little piggies wiggle
run away from the big bad soft wolf.
a clear calm
the day over
the night arrives
a new outlook on life
carves a thought in membranes
she will liquefy dry ice
she will right the wrongs
she will reflect the life that was lived
she will be my judge jury and executioner.

Heads Up: Low Output

There will be few to no posts this month.  I'm adjusting to a new schedule and gearing up for a number of projects that will take my time and focus away from the blog.  It may spill into August, but I'll keep you updated.  In the meantime, dig into the archive and find your new favorite post.

Enjoy!

amnesia

the mind split
protocol broken
room temp bourbon breaths life into frozen water.
sweat drips absorbed by skin
the apocalypse begins with a single thought
followed by a ripple of action.
the horns of the horde
echo off mountain walls.
a surreal feeling follows the imaginative mist
shafts of light heats ground.
a visualized thought
an audible spectacle
hovers a few inches off concrete
sound travels before pupils are able to register
sweat drips unable to penetrate saturated skin
ceremony music plays
heads tilt up
hearts skip
new meanings to old taboos flourish
ignored caskets fill cemeteries
blunt force trauma allows eyes to see.
mixed dna predicts an outbreak
the mind splits
protocol breaks
simple pleasures leave a fleeting impression.

the brain freeze
disregarded operating procedures
a maker talks to stones that don't melt.
hydration penetrates pigmented epidermis
the beginning of the end begins with good intentions
followed by birds of a feather.
the wails of the fallen
echo within inner drums.
deja vu follows cigarette smoke
bricks of sun line the yellow brick road.
an image
a sound
surfs on a wave of wind
mind body soul forms one entity
hydration covers saturated thoughts
the orchestra sits at attention
unable to look up
unable to hear the beat skip
old meanings to new taboos
floods a canoe engulfed in flames
truth allows eyes to open.
family lines predict possibilities
the brain freezes
disregard operating procedures
simple pleasures leave a fleeting impression.

simple mathematics

we all fucked up in the game
poor broke rich millionaires
search for the hidden breath
beats in the silent night
whispers for all who listen
morse code waits to be seen
morse code waits to be deciphered
truth waiting for the believer to believe it.

we all the same
hard knocks breaks the soul
face on windshield spell out the lesson
we need to feel it
let nerves send signals to the brain
chemical reactions dictate the tempo
children of the earth hide
under manufactured tinted plastic
facades and postures
can not mask a broken heart
a broken child
a broken soul
a broken smile
tells a tale of hope
but perfection is a fantasy
a myth perpetuated by the collective.

we all feed the hype
enable the cycle to continue
folding chairs are pitched in front of train wrecks
and each neighbor deplores the action of each neighbor
but we don't move
we don't believe
actions of one can hold back the tide
we don't believe
the power that one holds
how one molecule can cause a chain reaction
provide shelter in a storm
find faith in the deceased.

we all fucked up in the game
not knowing
we are bound by the thoughts and imagination of our own doing
not knowing...

after adrenaline dies
after memory fades
after doors lock
after crowds disperse
after blood dries
the story is retold.

kick push

seek, hide, repeat

lips exposed under metal vein nylon skin
heavy rain bends head
reveal cover
windows to the soul
piece by piece
i sift through a cloud
find multiple images that look like one
tells the same story
of love tragedy romance
a soft hardness
locked in the push and pull of the city
points in time suspended
i search for the elusive smile
hiding at the corner of a frown
it waits to be noticed
and when the connection is made
it climbs the ladder from lips to iris.

another conversation begins
but i keep it moving away from the soul
fixated on partials
i let wet atmosphere guide the path
walk as if the sun beats the ground
near collisions happen within a second
the smoke gray sky allows eyes to lock stutter
then run from one another
brief connections
let a curious curve disarm a learned mentality
how can he be so happy in a sea of steel
what is known
is made up
filled with the wishes and desperation of the dreamer
i continue
watch strangers as a distant relative
from across the room
life is isolated
clues to operating procedure take place
a story forms
and no one knows the truth of the detail
moments of feeling connect to flashes of pictures
head tilted down
lips with rouge
a relaxed curvature
in the mist of frustration
a snap shot
multiplied
only because the seeker wanted a view of mystery.

future's past

old plans of the future
stand in the shadow of blueprints
never to mature
a city from an imaginative few
remnants of elevated concrete
keep a dream on life support
time speeds about and around
moss grows through seasons
every year
it digs deeper
breaking the foundation
a day will come
where the once small crack
forces descendants of the builders
to reevaluate an outdated mythology.

american black

every conflict
a scar
marks the occasion
the distinction of the event
reveals a piece of its life
a painful line
carves beneath skin
blood escapes through slits
soaks cotton until the warmth blend the two
in the years to come
a scar takes on its own personality
creates its own myth
history
modified slightly
with each retelling of the story.

elephant gun

the mischief man
runs towards shiny objects
the road to riches
precious gems
gold emeralds.
a queen stops in his path
stonewalls
and in the absence of logic
he becomes a man
travels the globe.
the queen handles business.
at points
their paths intersect
seconds at a time
then back to diverging roads.
maybe one day
two will become one
leaving enough time for both to enjoy.

acts of kindness

old shepherds

congregate
do more with looks than words
tonal savants
understand ripples and breezes
flow like a palm
bend to the desires of now.
old shepherds
coarsely teach the new
believe in tough love
know that the future rests on their shoulders
so with a light laugh
strong arm
they lead the way.

May 19, 2013

dark night, bright city

it starts the same
ends the same
hunger
thirst for interaction
connect to another
wishing that the ecstasy of the night
overflows into the day
cascades into happily ever after
but the nights and days are the same soundtrack
looped over alcoholic beverages
minimal light
leads everyone into false hope
a false
reality sits at a reserved table
watching the pieces fall
with no one to collect.

Men Being Men

A glimpse into the lives of four fathers and their boys.

Apr 26, 2013

faded

for a certain period of time
people are pulled to a space
where an exchange of action
create memories
feelings imprint on bits of tissue
influence pushes a wave
nostalgia and nightmares inform a past
soon revisited
when a trigger pulls
fabrics of life
drag ghosts to the front
things end begin overlap
within
a period of time
in a space
that constantly shifts

we mask
behind layers of imagination
meant to cover the truth
disguise the importance of simplification.
we are whole
we are the same
scared to look one another in the eye
and simply be.

Feb 24, 2013

ice, iron, concrete

grey descends
upon the center of the world
clouds contact cousins
so fog rolls suffocates sight.
the city shrugs
and conducts business as usual.
my eyes roll
through streets tracks life
viewed between mirror and glass
smoke fills lungs
seeps into vessels
inducing a state of calm
the quiet of its breath
allows age to float to surface.
grime covers this empirical town
yet no one seems to notice
or is it
that it constitutes the new norm.

true north

in the distance
a light shimmers.
i wonder if it is like us
two souls charting the night
caught in individual thought
briefly allowing them to collide.
i wonder if they're looking to the stars
trying to figure out the constellations
while the moon acts as a mirror
i wonder
drift in and out of space
let the night reveal its secrets.

and then
it disappeared.

orion

it looks like something out of a movie
the pale blue night
slow mountains fast shrubs.
my hand reaches out of the window
to touch the green screen
a vast nothing
as far as the eye can see.
darkness
interrupted by pin holes of color
nothingness surrounds me
rocks me to sleep
whispers future action into my head.
the world above looks down
tracks our movements
we start another adventure
blindly.

beyond the black rainbow

a line of coke enters nostrils
seeps into a stream.
flying robots sound cliche
so they sit on steps
watch the watcher take notes.
a blend of new and old hipsters
mingle toss glide
passed images of creativity.
reflections observe the solids
a transparent world
flutters into existence
by the whim of light
the best view is from the side.
words fail to describe
items locked in the human mind
so images take the task
and morph meaning into existence.

Jan 26, 2013

tooth and nail

in the midst of uncertainty
a calm overtakes the storm
under the sounds of the city
thunder rolls unheard
life begs to be lived in the moment
thoughts run the synaptic gauntlet
infinite patterns narrow to a single stream
and at the end a smile awaits all passengers.

Jan 10, 2013

rolling fog

crisp cool air accompanies
rolling fog
hovers above the ground.
light refracts from the dancing wandering particles
it blocks the night into a mist of gray.
an alien marvels at the wonder
a simple act
igniting a simplistic beauty
stands still in its motion.
